Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Treat Mental Health

If you need mental health care yet are worried about neglecting your daily obligations in personal and professional life, there is a way for you to reconcile your psychological needs and the daily routine you care about. An intensive outpatient program means you get to spend a few hours several days a week receiving treatment, after which you get back home to your family or return to work.
In case your symptoms are severe enough to make you consider this therapeutic approach but you do not need round-the-clock care from therapists, this may be the best treatment program for you. Contact Treat Mental Health as soon as you read this – intensive outpatient behavioral health programs we created have already helped multiple patients to get back on their feet and turn over a new leaf.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured psychological treatment provided to a patient who gets to attend therapy during the day and returns home for the night. Compared to alternative forms of treatment, including a traditional outpatient program, this one is suitable for individuals whose symptoms are severe enough to justify immediate mental health intervention – it usually lasts for several weeks or months, and a patient is asked to come to the facility several times per week for counseling sessions and therapeutic procedures.
Based on the approach chosen by the therapist, you may be asked to complete certain assignments in between the sessions – a counselor may tell you to journal your emotions or implement the social skills you have learned in training and role-playing exercises in real life.

What Is Treated in an IOP?

Depression

If your distressing thoughts, sleep disturbances, and fatigue caused by
depression have lasted for a long period of time, you may need to think about getting professional help to cope with your condition – do not delay treatment otherwise the complications to your psyche and physical state may be unpredictable. In case you experience suicidal ideations, medical intervention is essential.

Why Choose the IOP at Treat Mental Health?

If you are looking for a flexible yet highly effective treatment option, an intensive outpatient psychiatric program can be your best bet. Here is why you should choose Treat Mental Health to undergo treatment:
Access to Professional Support

If you are attending therapy sessions several times per week and your treatment lasts for hours without interruptions, you get to address all your concerns without worrying about the limited time to do that – our specialists are there to help you and guide you with respect and empathy.

Structured and Comprehensive Care

In order to accomplish meaningful results, some treatment programs require full commitment from the patient – you get to tackle your obstacles in a structured environment that can teach you how to cope with your issues in the long run. Moreover, as our counselors discuss your emotions, thoughts, and fears on a daily basis or at least several days in a row, they will be able to pinpoint underlying issues you may not be aware of yet.

Communication With Peers

Group therapy is often the best solution to deal with behavioral issues, battle isolation and lack of socialization in general, and learn how to become a better listener – share your own story and get closer with your peers whose experiences you can relate to. There is even a chance you can build new friendships as you are undergoing treatment – start a new chapter in your life with people who understand you on a much deeper level.

Independence and Balance

Certain therapeutic approaches demand full-time commitment – you may have to put your life on pause and temporarily stop going to work or taking care of your family as you are recovering. An intensive outpatient mental health program, however, does not require you to make sacrifices of this sort – you can maintain a balance between your treatment and daily obligations.

What to Expect During an Intensive Outpatient Program?

While intensive outpatient treatment is going to look different for every patient based on their symptoms and medical history, we can briefly outline the main components of the program you can expect:

Therapeutic Assessment

We are going to learn more about your mental health past and present – we will look into your medical history and have a private conversation about the symptoms that bother you now or complicated feelings you cannot manage to the detriment of your personal relationships. Also, our therapists will help you come up with your therapy goals if you have not been able to define them on your own.

Detailed Treatment Plan

After learning more about you personally, our counselors will map out an approximate plan of either full recovery or symptom management, depending on your mental state at the beginning of the treatment. This is a tailored set of instructions you will follow under the supervision of our therapists when you are at the facility and when you are going home to rest. Remember that the roadmap we prepare for you is not set in stone – we can adjust your treatment at any time if certain techniques do not bring tangible results or you feel uncomfortable with specific practices.

Continued Care

Your mental health journey does not end when you stop attending counseling sessions – the objective of our center is to equip you with the knowledge that will guide you in the long run. You will leave our facility with a set of skills and mechanisms that will allow you to maintain a balance between your body, spirit, and mind. Additionally, we will teach you various relaxation practices that will boost your mood.

Talking Therapy

Intensive outpatient counseling means conversations with a therapist in private as well as group therapy. You can open up about the experiences that bother you to a counselor who will advise you on how to cope with triggers that cause your symptoms and help you move on from your trauma while in a group setting you will have an opportunity to meet your peers who have the same or similar experiences and make friends with people who know what you are going through first hand.

• Frequently Asked Questions

The Answers To Your Questions.

What Is the Difference Between an IOP and PHP?
An IOP has a lot in common with a similar treatment program – a partial hospitalization program. Both of them were developed to provide patients with a strict schedule aimed to eliminate the most severe symptoms of their mental health conditions, yet there are differences between these two programs. Partial hospitalization may not allow the person to keep up with their studies and work since it requires them to attend therapy up to seven days per week, while the IOP mental health program will take up to five days per week with shorter hours. Besides, compared to partial hospitalization, an intensive outpatient program is less expensive, making it a preferred method of treatment for many individuals.
What Is the Difference Between IOP and Residential Treatment?
Residential treatment is a full-time therapy – a patient may be busy in the morning as they are practicing mindfulness and doing breathing exercises, in the afternoon when they meet for a private conversation with the counselor, and in the evening when they attend a meeting of the support group for people with the same disorder. An IOP, in contrast, will keep you occupied for several days per week for two or three hours, depending on the severity of your symptoms and the treatment program approved for you by the therapist.
What Is the Difference Between an OP and an IOP?
An OP is very similar to an IOP. The main difference lies in the duration of the treatment – for instance, outpatient mental health care may mean a single therapy session you attend every weekend while an intensive outpatient program will require you to spend at least ten hours every week on various procedures. You can upgrade to intensive treatment if you believe you no longer manage your condition with an occasional counseling session or a single support group you have joined just as you can opt for outpatient treatment when your mental state improves.

Rediscover Joy With the Support of Treatment

Making your mental health, safety, and personal growth your priorities is a very smart decision that will be rewarding right away and months and years after you no longer receive therapy.
